What is cask strength?
Cask strength
Bottled straight from the barrel without watering down, usually 50 to 65 percent alcohol. A few drops of water open it up.
What it tastes like
Big, hot and concentrated, with more of everything the barrel gave it. Water calms the heat and brings out sweetness.
Where you’ll see it
Whiskey and rum lists, labeled cask strength or barrel proof, often at a higher price.
