What is single malt?
Single malt
Whisky made from malted barley at one distillery, usually in pot stills. Scotch single malts are the best known, but Japan and the US make them too.
What it tastes like
Varies a lot: honeyed and fruity, sherried and rich, or smoky and briny, depending on the distillery and casks.
Where you’ll see it
Whisky lists at bars and steakhouses, poured neat or with a drop of water, often by region or age.
